The letter Alef, started as
the picture of the head of an ox and is
used to symbolize what is strong and what goes first (like an ox
in front of the cart).
The resource books agree that
the Hebrew letter Alef means an ox and is used for the Hebrew number
one but can this be clearly seen in the Hebrew word pictures?
There are some basic principles that are
needed to determine if an interpretation of a word picture is accurate.
The first is a pattern through a series of
words that show a consistent symbolic meaning. Here is a short
series (it can be made much longer) that shows Alef being used in Hebrew words
for what is strong or goes first.
