     Here are a few examples of how the Chinese language uses pictures for words.  Compare these to the Hebrew Word Pictures.

 

     This section will also change every 4-6 weeks.

 

The pictorial part of Chinese is fascinating because it shows the beliefs of whoever first wrote the word.  Much of Chinese comes from an ancient source, that Histories and Legends say was the same person who brought mankind through the flood.

Heart

This is the Chinese word for heart.  It is simply a picture of a heart.

   

By adding another picture to that of a heart, other Chinese words are formed that perfectly describe the concept of the word.

To pronounce a foreign word, the Chinese often chose words that carry similar sounds, but they can chose from different words to form a picture that was consistent with the concept.

   
Latin

Therefore, it is interesting what pictures they chose for Latin, which was the first language used to bring the Gospel to China.

   
The Ox

A look at the history of the Chinese character for The Ox (bull or cow) and how it parallels the history of the Hebrew letter Alef.
