    February 2010

Happy Valentines Day!

Romance and the Bible may seem like an unlikely combination but as a marriage counselor I have come to understand just how important the marriage and family are for our life, culture and future.

If you find yourself missing out on romance or love maybe it is time to take another look at the Biblical precepts that God designed.

I belong to my beloved, my beloved belongs to me        Song of Songs 6:3

This is the call from God for every marriage

and for each of our hearts toward God!

We think of "romance" as something that happens, that we are carried away by, and that produces wonderful results.  The problem with romance as is commonly understood has not produced those results for most of us.

For thousands of years man and womankind have been blessed and cursed by the promise and the lies of romance.  The bad news is that we are often blind to the problems.  The good news is that God has created a romance that fulfills all the promises that we hope for and more!

There is a secret to experiencing the blessing of romance.  As with most of God's greatest blessings receiving it is simple but it requires a great price - our whole heart.

The secret to a love that creates a life long romance is written on Egyptian papyrus in three ancient languages that describe the ancient wisdom in words, that although thousands of years old, are just as powerful in our lives today.

We offer you the teaching for free.  And we offer the actual Papyrus at a special, reduced price.

The cry of a bride for her husband is expressed in Hebrew in the Song of Solomon.

  Ani l’dodi v’dodi li

I belong to my beloved, my beloved belongs to me.

Love is more than just feelings.  Love is more than just a moment.

Love is a belonging that produces a life long covenant of security and romance.

The top line is the cry of the bride in the ancient Hebrew script that King David and Moses would have recognized.

  Ani l’dodi v’dodi li

I belong to my beloved, my beloved belongs to me.

Because we get our alphabet from the ancient Hebrew-Phoenician Alef-Bet, our modern letters can be seen in ancient Hebrew.

Reading from right to left A,  N  and Y  make up the word Ani or "I"

The next word, again from right to left, became our letters L,  D,  U  (look at the top to see the "U"), D and Y,

this forms the Hebrew L'dodi or "belong to my beloved"

Then the letters V (same as U) D, U, D and Y which give us   V'dodi or "and my beloved"

And the last is the L and Y which spell   Li or "to me".

With just a little practice you will be able to read this from the original Hebrew.

It will be worth the effort to be able to read and remember the cry of true love.

The next line is the same verse written in the shape of modern Biblical Hebrew.

In the Hebrew it is the bride that cries out that she belongs to her beloved knowing that he also belongs to her.

In the Greek on the bottom line is the Bible verse in Titus 1:6.  In this verse a man is called to be the husband of one wife - or more powerfully in the original Greek, he is to be...

This was a common phrase used 2,000 years ago for an uncommon man.  A man was to be in love with, dedicated to, and only have eyes for one woman.

This is a secret God declared when Adam and Eve were created.  It is not good for man to dwell alone so Eve was created and as many weddings declare -- the two shall become one!

This is the purpose God created man and woman to fulfill.  This ancient secret to abiding love and romance tells us that belonging to each other means we each must become a one woman man or a one man woman.

Chinese also tells us about the secret of a life long romance when it tells us about what happens to a one woman man, or a one man woman.

   One Woman in the House

The Chinese word for tranquil or peaceful is a picture of a life built on love, romance, covenant and peace.

The top part of the word is the picture of the roof of a house.

The ancient form of this character shows you an ancient Chinese home.

The bottom part of the Chinese word for peaceful or  tranquil is the picture of a woman.

Together these pictures describe the Chinese word for peace and tranquility

as what happens when a man allows only one woman in his home or heart.

When men or women belong to their beloved, their spouse they belong to no other. This type of love demands both covenant and romance.

This papyrus is designed to remind each of us that true love is not just a feeling that comes and goes, but a decision that chooses only one and because of that commitment can give, belong and love with all of their heart.

Don’t be satisfied with anything less than having and becoming one true love. A heart never fully given is a heart that never experiences the power and glory of love.

May God give you a heart and life of love.
